Bites Nearby: 208 Garfield

208 Garfield is a fabulous spot to visit for family, friends, or maybe even a casual mid-day date.

As a huge wine lover, I am always in the mood to discover the new restaurants or wine bars that emerge around town. 208 Garfield, located in the old Forza building connected to the Pacific Lutheran University bookstore in Parkland, just happened to be the venue for a Chamber of Commerce social gathering. Needless to say, there were no arms to be twisted on this one.

208 Garfield proudly serves wines from PLU alumni-owned wineries as well as other select wineries from Washington and Oregon. It also features specialty beers from local breweries that are sure to please even the pickiest of beer aficionados. A fact straight from 208 is that the closest winery is less than 40 miles away and all of their wines travel less than 300 miles to reach your glass!

One of the unique qualities of 208 is that they have wine on tap. Yes ... wine on tap. Similar to that of a beer tap system, the wine system is low-pressure and uses nitrogen, which does not harm the quality of the wine. This process ensures a quality glass of wine which is just as good as the first glass.

Although I could go on forever about the wine, I need to share a bit about their small plates. In one word: amazing. Fare such as slow-roasted pork belly with a brown sugar glaze, pickled mustard seeds with a shaved fennel salad, open-faced Taleggio tuna melt on toasted brioche, and Saint Marcellin fondue with green apple, ciabata and a sweet cherry conserve are just a few items on the menu.

Fresh home-made salads, soups, paninis and piadini is served daily and is very affordably priced. A big bonus is the fact that 208 is family-friendly and serves children (and adult) favorites such as organic peanut butter and jelly and special grilled Nutella sandwiches. Happy hour is from 3 to 6 p.m. with mouthwatering small plates for a simple $4 and, of course, wine, beer and session-bottled beer.
