Fourth of July Relatively Quiet for Bonney Lake, Sumner Police

Both the Bonney Lake and Sumner police departments responded to few disturbances during the Fourth of July.

Maybe it was because the holiday was mid-week, or perhaps threats of fines and jail time were enough, but residents of Bonney Lake and Sumner stayed out of trouble on the Fourth of July this year, according to police.

“It seemed as if the number of fireworks complaints were down significantly from last year,” said BLPD Officer Todd Green. “Everyone we contacted in regards to the ordinance was very understanding and told us they would comply with the law.  All in all, the community of Bonney Lake really stepped up this year and created a fun, but safe Fourth of July.”

In all, BLPD responded to 4 service calls related to fireworks on the holiday and 5 on the previous day.

It was somewhat louder in the valley – Sumner Police responded to 11 fireworks-related calls on Wednesday, but even that number was down from 2011, when the department responded to 14.
