Old School Frozen Custard Closes its Doors in Bonney Lake

Sunday was a sad day for local frozen custard fans, as Bonney Lake’s Old School Frozen Custard location on SR 410 closed its doors for good.

The Puget Sound business has a location in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood and is opening another in Fremont.

There was little notice of the closure, except for Old School’s status update on Facebook to stop by and say goodbye on Sunday. The store offered Orange Creamsicles and Chocolate Chip desserts on special during its last day.

In the Facebook status update, members of the community expressed sadness at the store’s closing and how much they’ve enjoyed it during it’s tenure in town.

So unfortunate to lose a unique, delicious treat of a place. You were the reward for my son's potty training and a nice place for our family to enjoy,” commented one local fan. “It's unfortunate that "Booney Lake" doesn't work harder to keep one of a kind places in their town... I'll miss the espresso shake most :) We will have to visit Fremont more often and support their economy!

Old School Frozen Custard replied:

Thank you for all your feedback. We at Old School are very sad to have to close this store. We do highly value our customers in Bonney Lake and their patronage over the years. However, the time has come to move forward. Thank you again for all the feedback and continued support!

Patch didn’t get a chance to stop in and figure out why the owners decided to close the store before it closed, but , employees mentioned that the Bonney Lake location struggled to stay busy.

“There is a lot more walking traffic in Seattle,” admitted Jenny Eiler, who began working at Old School when it first opened in Bonney Lake. “[Custard] is kind of an impulse buy, and that influences the amount of business we get here versus our other location.”
