Spring Brings New Life and Growth

Welcoming Spring with new baby photo shoots!

It’s been a while since I have visited my local Patch Blog site. I’ve been busy busy busy photographing newborns. One might even say spring is the busy baby season. Newborn photographing to me is one of the most challenging, yet rewarding images I can capture. They take a lot of time and patience to get baby sleepy and in perfect little womb like poses. But when I'm able to get baby to sleep, I can create images that I hope bring a smile and tear of joy to Mom and Dad's eyes.

Newborns are best photographed under just 10 days old and shouldn’t be taking lightly. There are lots of photographers out there who don’t take safety in posing into account. For example, many of the images you see are what is called “composites” where things like moms hands holding baby’s head are removed from the final image with the help of Photoshop. So when choosing your photographer be sure your do your research a find one who is skilled in handling newborns. There are several resources online, just Google, “newborn photographer safety”.

A newborn session is never complete without a fabulous hat embellishment. I love being able to see the full belly, tiny toes and hands, and wrinkles in the skin of a newborn. Therefore, most of my newborn shoots baby won’t be wearing much more then his or her "birthday suit".  So to add a little pop of color and interest to the photograph I turn to my friend Jessica of The Kuntry Krafter. Based out of Orting, Jessica has been knitting and crocheting for eight years. A hobby that started when she was pregnant with her first child, today has flourished into a fun and profitable business that brings her alot of joy. I asked her what her favorite thing about knitting. She told me that she enjoys making custom items because of the stories behind them. For example she said, “I recently made a newborn fireman hat with the initials FDNY on it. I couldn't help but be reminded of all the heroes of 9-11 when I was making it and shipping it off to New York. Crocheting a special item, especially for a newborn is such a personal thing!”

Our children are truly are only this small once and in a blink of an eye they are grown and out of the house. I guess myself like Jessica, enjoys that personal touch of providing a family a piece of that moment that they can hold long after their child is grown. It’s a great feeling to be able to be creative and at the same time be able to giving back.
