Community Corner

Owls, Trails, Outdoor Living Room Captivate Tehaleh Buyer

“Originally, I came here for the lattes at Caffé D’Arte,” says Tehaleh homeowner Lisa Peterson. “But then it was like, wait, there’s this incredible community here. I walked the gorgeous trails, I met the amazing people here, and I was hooked.”

As the Puget Sound’s top-selling new-home community, Tehaleh offers residents a premier Pacific Northwest living experience. The community’s six parks, 7.5 miles of trails, and stunning views of Mount Rainier facilitate an outdoor lifestyle, while the warm and inviting atmosphere at The Post makes it the perfect place for catching up with neighbors and friends. Lisa is among the many residents who gather at The Post for weekly club meetings as well as to relax and catch up with new friends.

Community tours are available this weekend, with 14 models and 10 move-in-ready homes to explore. Tehaleh offers homes built by Quadrant Homes, Benjamin Ryan Communities, Lennar, Richmond American Homes and Trilogy at Tehaleh.

For Lisa and her family, easy access to the outdoors is a big part of the appeal of Tehaleh. “The things we love most are the trails, the beauty of the forest, the incredible views…having that majestic mountain staring back at you never gets old,” she says.

Every morning she walks the trails surrounding their house with the family dog.  “There’s a greenbelt behind our house, and I can literally walk out my front door and be on the trailhead in what feels like seconds,” she says.

Lisa and her husband of 20 years, Eric, have always loved the outdoors, and they often see birds, deer, and herds of elk on their walks. Her 18 year-old son and 13 year-old daughter also love to spend time hiking the trails with friends. Being close to nature is part of the lifestyle at Tehaleh. Their favorite part of their home is the outdoor living space, sitting around the fireplace at night and listening to the sounds of owls and other wildlife.

When they’re not walking the trails, Lisa and her family take advantage of other Tehaleh activities. Her daughter is a softball player; the whole family practices together on the baseball field at Donald Eismann Elementary School, which is located right in the community. When friends and family with younger children come to visit, they love taking them to one of the six beautiful parks at Tehaleh. The kids enjoy the half basketball court at The Edge, and Ponder’s pond and picnic tables are perfect for evening walks and special meals. Walks in the neighborhood always end at The Post, where even their beloved dog is welcome.

“I love that The Post is dog-friendly, and we can bring her in with us instead of having to leave her outside,” Lisa says. “She’s spoiled rotten – she knows there’s always a biscuit waiting for her there.”

As experienced homeowners, Lisa and her husband knew they were ready for a long-term commitment when they began looking for their next house. “We were hoping to find the home that will take us into retirement – and we knew this was the one,” she says. Their son is about to start college next year, and the price point was just right for them. They appreciated that buying their Tehaleh home was a stress-free process. “Our first home was a much older house, and we had to put a lot of sweat equity into it,” Lisa remembers. “It was so appealing to walk into a new home where everything was new and just the way we wanted it.”

For Lisa, the sense of community at Tehaleh is what really makes the difference. “In other neighborhoods I’ve lived in, people hardly leave their homes, except to take out the garbage!” she says. “But here, you see people standing on the street talking to their neighbors all the time…and you’re always meeting new people at the community events.” Lisa says that it didn’t take long to feel like they belonged at Tehaleh. “After only a couple weeks, I already felt like our neighbors were looking out for us. They know us and they’re really invested in who we are as people.”

Tehaleh is owned in a joint venture between two strong companies; North America Sekisui House, LLC (NASH), the U.S. business unit and full subsidiary of Sekisui House Ltd., Japan’s largest homebuilder and leading diversified developer, and American Newland Communities, LLC, whose development business, Newland Communities, is the master developer of Tehaleh. Collectively, the NASH-Newland partnership owns or manages more than 30 communities across the country.
