Tehaleh Attracts Multigenerational Homebuyers

“We’ve always been a close family, but once we had grandchildren we knew we needed to live closer,” says Terry Peters. “You just don’t want to miss those incredible moments.” Terry and her husband David realized their dream recently when both families purchased homes in Tehaleh. “We’re so lucky,” Terry says, “We can literally look out the window and see our daughter’s house.”

As the Puget Sound’s top-selling new-home community, Tehaleh offers a premier Pacific Northwest living experience that appeals to buyers at all stages of their lives. The community’s six parks, 7.5 miles of trails, and stunning views of Mount Rainier enable residents to enjoy an outdoor lifestyle, where they meet and connect with neighbors to form a tight-knit community. Community tours are available this weekend, with 12 models and 15 move-in-ready homes to explore.

The Peters moved into their single story home in June of 2013. They had lived in Anacortes and David was hesitant to leave their lake view behind. After his first visit to Tehaleh, he changed his mind. “It feels like Mount Rainier is watching over us here,” he says.  Terry loves that their floor plan accommodates the entire family, “The layout is perfect,” she says, “I love that you walk in the door and it’s open and inviting. The living room is so spacious, we have three couches! We can all be here together.”

After the Peters moved in, their daughter Abby, whose Puyallup home had depreciated, researched Tehaleh and found a loan program through the builder Quadrant Homes. With Quadrant’s assistance, she and her husband were able to rent their old home and qualify for a new loan. “It was exactly the break our daughter’s family needed to get into a beautiful new home,” said David. “We all pitched in to make improvements on their old house and now they have time to build value while living in a beautiful home in Tehaleh.”

David is a retired principal and Terry is a retired teacher. They delight in the sounds of their grandchildren chasing each other through the house, and love having them close. David drives his golf cart around, picking up his grandson and friends after school at Donald Eismann Elementary, the school located in the Tehaleh community. “After school, our nine year old grandson comes over to do his homework or to go outside and play with a friend from the neighborhood,” Terry says. “We pick up our four year old granddaughter from pre-school and go out for lunch together. We get to be a big part of their childhood.”

Having two generations of family at Tehaleh also makes it easy for them to connect with others in the community. “I get to watch my daughter form strong friendships,” says Terry. “She had a cookie party and showed other Tehaleh moms how to make healthier treats. It was so much fun.” David laughs, “Our kids plan parties at our house! They bring friends over to watch football games and sit in our hot tub.” Terry points out that the neighbors give back to them too. “We’re older and when it snowed, I woke up, looked outside and saw that our sidewalks had already been shoveled.”

The Peters take advantage of all Tehaleh has to offer. Terry walks the trails and checks in on her neighbors. She also stops at the skate park and visits with the older kids. “I want them to have a sense of community and feel like they belong here too,” she says.

A highlight of David’s day is visiting Caffé D’arte at The Post to talk with friends and catch up on community happenings. The information center is a natural meeting place that welcomes residents to bring their dogs in. Terry enjoys visiting with the dogs and their owners.

Tehaleh is owned in a joint venture between two strong companies; North America Sekisui House, LLC (NASH), the U.S. business unit and full subsidiary of Sekisui House Ltd., Japan’s largest homebuilder and leading diversified developer, and American Newland Communities, LLC, whose development business, Newland Communities, is the master developer of Tehaleh. Collectively, the NASH-Newland partnership owns or manages more than 30 communities across the country.

Terry and David love the community they’ve created at Tehaleh. “Tehaleh isn’t just a new development; it’s a new community so we need to make new traditions.” Terry gives a perfect example, “Over the holidays, we decided to go caroling. People just started joining us and before long we had 30 people singing and a big wagon full of food to donate to the Bonney Lake Food Bank.” David agrees, “We’re close to our daughter and her family, and to everyone who lives in between and around us!”
