10 Years Later: 9/11 Anniversary Events Planned Across the Region Today

From local fire stations to the Puyallup Fair, the terrorist attacks will be remembered by local residents.

Several community events will be held today to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City, the Pentagon and rural Pennsylvania.

East Pierce Fire & Rescue Remembers
At 6:55 a.m., all on-duty East Pierce Fire & Rescue personnel will assemble at the flag pole at their respective stations. At 6:59 a.m., the time of the collapse of the first World Trade Center tower, and upon the direction of the assigned Company Officer, all assembled uniformed personnel will come to attention, render a hand salute and the station flags will be lowered to half-staff. Afterward, there will be a moment of silence in honor of the victims of the terrorist attacks. On-coming shift and off-duty members and their families are encouraged to participate.

East Pierce Fire & Rescue Station 15 in Lake Tapps will host a flag dedication at 1 p.m. There will be a Boy Scout troop, bagpipers and speeches during the event at 1605 210 Ave. E. Parking is very limited.

Special Church Service to be Held In Puyallup
High Pointe Community Church invites the public and first responders and military members to a 9 a.m. service at Emerald Ridge High School, 12405 184th St. E., Puyallup. Channel 13's television personality David Rose will host the event.

Tribute to South King emergency personnel
A tribute to South King County fire and police personnel will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Auburn Performing Arts Center, 700 E. Main St.

Memorial Events At the Puyallup Fair
The Puyallup Fair’s Pro Rodeo Justin Boots Playoffs will recognize the military and emergency responders at 1 p.m. as local children lead attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance. Tickets are still available.

The Fair will also hold an “America Remembers” tribute from 6-8 p.m. on the Coca-Cola Stage, hosted by the Puyallup Seventh-Day Adventist Church and featuring members of the military and emergency responders.  This year’s tribute will feature keynote speaker, Major General James M. Collins Jr., an experienced executive and opinion leader in the Army, business, and volunteer communities of the state and the nation.

Local Channel Airing Special Report
Pierce County TV (channel 22) will air a special report through Wednesday about local first responders’ assistance in the recovery efforts after 9/11 and how they plan to manage emergencies in the future. The 20-minute special runs daily at 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
