Bonney Lake Community Rallies Behind Family Adopting Four Siblings from Ukraine

Chris and Nicole Weber have two boys at home and recently adopted two boys from Ukraine to make a family of six. By the end of the summer, the Webers will be a party of 10 because as family friend Kimmie Copen Ledesma told Patch, their hearts were just too big.

The Webers' previous experience with the God's Waiting Children adoption agency, which works specifically with orphans in Ukraine, acquainted them with a family of four orphans. And in spite of their work as ambassadors for the agency, trying to find a family for the siblings so they could stay together, no one came forward.

"They just really tugged on their heart strings," Ledesma said.

Compounding the urgency for the adoption to occur was the fact that the eldest sibling, a girl, was quickly approaching an un-adoptable age. Not wanting to risk losing her to a way of life in which she'd have to fend for herself, the Webers took a leap of faith and offered themselves as the siblings' forever family.

How does one shuttle a family of 10 around? How do you even store the quantities of food needed to supply proper meals for everyone? Ledesma shared her friends' big hearts with the greater Sumner and Bonney Lake community, and many stepped up in an effort to help get the Webers up and running.

The effort culminates in a fundraiser/silent auction that takes place this Thursday at Midtown Grill in Bonney Lake. Many businesses offered items up for bid including gift certificates to ManeStage Theatre, Ben Franklin's, Buttered Biscuit, Salon Lush, Elite Fitness and more.

Krista Williams, representing Noonday Jewelry, will be on hand and will donate 20 percent of everything that is sold to the Webers.

The fundraiser starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13.
