Grab and Go Kids Planner: Free Museums, Open Mic Night and Dr. Seuss

From teens to tots, there's something going on for everyone in the family this week.

Children’s Museum of Tacoma, Downtown Tacoma
  • WHEN? March 4
  • WHY GO? Children can learn and play in this enclosed environment that features rotating themes. Explore the museum’s newest exhibit Zing!: The Power of Play that focuses on elements of movement.  A printable parent guide can be obtained here.
  • HOW MUCH? Free
Kent Kids Art Day, Kent Commons
  • WHEN?  Saturday, March 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • WHY GO? Give the kids a creative outlet in this day-long are event. Kids will get to create hands-on projects such as tie-dye, handmade paper and landscape paintings while enjoying local entertainment and visual arts.
  • HOW MUCH? $10 for children; parents and kids younger than 2 are free
Open-Mic Night, Main Street Coffee, Buckley
  • WHEN? First Saturday of the month, 7 p.m.
  • WHY GO? Open Mic Night is fast becoming a hot spot for the area teens on the Plateau. Many come to support friends, but several young adults are packing the house with their vocals and accompanying guitars. It's a great spot to drop off your teen at or even spend some time together – in a cool way. Get there early to grab one of the plush seats by the fire.
  • HOW MUCH? Free, although you’ll want to get a coffee.
Pacific Science Center, Downtown Seattle
  • WHEN? March 7 and the first Monday of each month
  • WHY GO? Discover the how and why behind the mysteries of nature by visiting the permanent exhibits of Kid Works, Body Works, Dinosaurs: A Journey Through Time, the Tropical Butterfly House, Science on a Sphere and more. The first 1,000 guests will be let in free (made possible by the Fred Meyer Fund).
  • HOW MUCH? Free to first 1,000
Play to Learn, South Hill Library

WHEN?  March 7 and every Monday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (additional dates vary by location)

WHY GO? Celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday this week, with Play to Learn, a program sponsored by Pierce County Library and Children’s Museum of Tacoma that allows parents and children to learn together with weekly themes that offer play, group activities, songs and stories for children younger than 6. Winter session runs through March.

HOW MUCH? Free drop-in event
