Grab and Go Kids Planner: Family Movie Night, Backyard Festival

Step out of town this weekend for these new featured events.

SEATTLE INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL, SEATTLE CENTER

WHEN? May 10-14 and May 16 in Tacoma

WHY GO?  This year marks the 25th anniversary of the annual International Children’s Festival and the quest to introduce children to cultures and customs from all over the world through performing arts. The festival highlights cultures through music. Several of the area theaters, including Intiman, Bagley Wright and the Center House, will host special performances. Take the kids to check out demonstrations and musical performances with a hands-on approach to learning about other cultures, from China to Ecuador and India. This is all included with your ticket purchase.

HOW MUCH?  Performances range from $7-10 per ticket. Activities are free with ticket purchase.

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT, MAPLE VALLEY COMMUNITY CENTER

WHEN? Friday, May 13 at 6:30pm

WHY GO? Enjoy some quality family time with the kids while watching Yogi Bear over a pizza dinner. Also included is a special craft. Children are welcome to wear pajamas and bring a blanket or pillow.

HOW MUCH? $3 per child, $5 per adult

11th ANNUAL BACKYARD FESTIVAL, TUKWILA COMMUNITY CENTER

WHEN? Saturday, May 14 at 9 a.m.

WHY GO? Learn about the backyard as a wildlife and environmentally-friendly habitat. This family event includes special kid activities such as arts and crafts, cooking demonstrations, story time with Ranger Rick, The Bubbleman and more. Master gardener Cisco Morris is this year’s speaker.

HOW MUCH? Free

YELLOW POLKA DOT BIKINIS AND TUMMY CRUNCHES! EXHIBIT, WHITE RIVER VALLEY MUSEUM, AUBURN

WHEN? May 4- July 31, Wednesdays – Saturdays from Noon to 4pm

WHY GO? With swimsuit season just around the corner, bring your young teen girls to this exhibit, on loan from the Jantzen Company archive. Showcasing the history of the cultural ideals and realities surrounding the female body through swimsuits; travel back in time to 1910 and see the changes each decade has introduced.

HOW MUCH? $2 adult admission, $1 for seniors and children. Free admission on Wednesday. 

KIDS DESIGN GLASS, MUSEUM OF GLASS, TACOMA

WHEN? Current exhibition through October 2011

WHY GO? This exhibit showcases 52 works of glass as envisioned by children through the museum’s Kids Design Glass Program where children submit drawing and a monthly winner is chosen to have their drawing recreated as glass art. Kids of all ages will delight in the opportunity to see their art come alive in this sleek and vibrant medium.

HOW MUCH? Museum admission: $12 adults, $5 children, under 5 are free
