Great Escape: Go Clam Digging

Head to the coast for Razor Clams.

Washington’s Coast offers a variety of much sought after shellfish. Head to the Pacific Coast for razor clams and reap the rewards of your hard earned harvest.  Not only is clam harvesting a fun and challenging sport, but the opportunity to cook and create your own chowder or fritters gives you a whole new appreciation for our local resources.

Beaches which offer harvesting are: Long Beach, Twin Harbors Beach, Copalis Beach, Mocrocks Beach and Kalaloch Beach. Although about 3.2 million razor clams were harvested off Washington beaches last year, there will be slightly less available this year due to the cyclical clam population.

With the option to harvest up to 15 clams per day, and a limited season that offers 15-35 days per season, many jump on the chance to get started in the earliest weeks of the season which often begin in middle to late October.  Clamming rules vary, not only by species, but also by beach location so it is crucial to obtain the necessary permits and abide by the state laws regarding shellfish farming.
