Help Bonney Lake Food Bank Take Advantage of Opportunity to Build up Food, Monetary Donations

The City of Bonney Lake welcomes citizens to help the Bonney Lake Food Bank leverage a weeklong promotion by CenturyLink to match donations of both food and money during the week of June 3 through June 7.

CenturyLink has announced its Backpack Buddies Feed the Children Food Drive from June 3 through June 7 to help local food banks feed local kids over the summer when they are out of school and don't have access to school lunches.

To that end, the Bonney Lake Food Bank has passed along the details of the drive: for every pound of food collected, CenturyLink will donate up to $1 and for every $1 in cash/check donation received, it will donate up to $6 for the Bonney Lake Food Bank.

The promotion only applies between June 3 to June 7. You can make your donations directly to the Bonney Lake Food Bank at 18409 Veterans Memorial Dr E. They are open Tues & Thurs 10:00am - 1:00pm; Friday 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 5:00pm - 7:00 pm  (Visit website for more information)

City Department Bragging Rights

Or, if you've a favorite city office or department, you can give them a little boost through an ongoing Peanut Butter and Jelly Challenge that has been taking place since May 22 through June 10.

Staff at three locations:

  • Justice and Municipal Center
  • Public Safety Building
  • Public Works Center, Public Works Shop and Senior Center
are collecting supplies for the food bank for making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for kids this summer. The challenge began as a way to pit the offices against each other and drum up some friendly competition, said City Events Coordinator David Wells.

However, staff are beginning to reach out to their own networks of family and friends via social media, so if members of the public want to help out in the challenge, they can route their donations through their desired office, he said.

The ultimate winners will be the food bank and the kids who'll have lunch options this summer, but that's not stopping city staff from indulging their competitive streaks.

Just a little.
