Memorial Day Celebrations in Sumner
Sumner's 69th annual Memorial Day celebration is Monday, May 28. Help show reverence for the fallen and place flags on grave markers in the cemetery today, Thurs., May 24 at 4 p.m.
Since 1943, Sumner’s VFW Post 3070 has honored Memorial Day by placing flags on the markers of veterans in the . Citizens, Boy Scouts and other groups will be out in the cemetery today at 4 p.m. to assist the VFW with this tradition. Help is appreciated as there are many veterans buried in Sumner's cemetery -- the oldest date back to the Civil War.
It's all in preparation for Sumner’s 69th annual Memorial Day service, held Monday, May 28 at 10 a.m. in the cemetery. As part of the ceremony, the place a flower on the memorial as the names of Sumner's veterans are read.
