Share: Trails and Getting Around Sumner

Whether you're a local business owner who would benefit from increased non-vehicle traffic or an outdoors enthusiast who enjoys a long bike ride, what would you look forward to most when the trail system in Sumner is complete?

Sumner Mayor Dave Enslow wrote in this week's Community Connection e-newsletter about the progress of trail construction in the city that in the long run would make it possible to bike from south King County all the way to the foothills of Mount Rainier:

"Can you imagine getting on a bike along Lake Washington in Seattle and riding all the way to Mount Rainier on a beautiful trail system? This is getting very close to being a reality.

Sumner's trails were the last missing link between the Interurban Trail from Seattle to the Foothills Trail to Mt. Rainier. And, I'm very proud to announce that Sumner's trail system is nearing completion. We have one remaining section that just received funding and will be completed this year. There's one more section on Fryar that uses bike lanes and sidewalks as a temporary link until we get a separated trail system through there. But, the point is that starting this summer, it will be easy to walk or bike along the White River without dodging cars and trucks. The last remaining link will be the Stewart Road Bridge. We just received money to design a new bridge that includes a separated trail, so that's in the works."
