The Gothard Sisters Look Ahead to Death by Chocolate in Bonney Lake

The dinner and auction benefiting the Bonney Lake Lions Club and its various projects in the community takes place Saturday, March 23.

Death by Chocolate is coming up Saturday, March 23 - have you purchased your tickets yet?

If you're still waffling, consider who will be headlining the event: The Gothard Sisters!

Fans of an Internet radio station that programs Irish music 24/7 named their Story Girl CD as Celtic Radio Album of the Year for 2011.

Thought based in Edmonds, the sisters have performed frequently in Bonney Lake over the last several years, oldest sister Greta Gothard told Patch, including Bonney Lake Days Festival and Tunes at Tapps.

Because this major fundraiser for the Bonney Lake Lions Club takes place close enough to St. Patrick's Day, the sisters' Celtic music fit well for the occasion, Greta said.

This performance at Death by Chocolate will be one of just a handful of performances the trio have lined up for this year. The sisters just returned to Washington from a tour of the south and will be crossing the country visiting various fairs and festivals this summer, Greta said. Locally, they will be at both spring and fall Puyallup fairs this year but that'll likely be it given their tight schedule.

Looking ahead to the March 23 event, "It'll be great to support the Lions Club," she said. "They do a lot of good work."

Death by Chocolate is both a dinner and auction with live entertainment. All funds raised are used to support programs throughout the year including Lions 4 Kids and all funding for glasses, hearing aids, Senior Center Christmas dinner and other community needs, according to organizer Andrea Henschell.

The event brings together many youth in the community including the Bonney Lake High School culinary arts team who just won some much deserved recognition and who will be preparing the evening's meal, the Leo and DECA clubs who will act as servers and helpers, and students from Dieringer Heights Elementary who, as part of their Rachel's Challenge project, are creating a work of art for the event auction, Henshell said.
