Top 5 Places for Playdates in Bonney Lake and Sumner

Patch picks the best places to take your kid for a playdate.

A good playdate needs more than a few kids. Location, cost and environment play a huge role in a mom's decision to participate, as well as the ability to allow kids to play while parents can sip coffee and enjoy some good conversation. Here are some of the top picks for playdates in our area.

Ridge and Valley Women Playdates

For those looking to meet other moms and women in the area, the Meetup-based Ridge and Valley Women's group organizes and arranges a variety of in-home and around-town playdates and activities for moms and kids alike from the ridge of Bonney Lake to the valley of Sumner and beyond. Not only can you get involved with your kids in the community, but also meet some great friends while you are at it.  A few upcoming kid-friendly playdate events include a Holiday Banner Christmas Craft ($2 supplies fee) and Making Santa Lists. Space is limited on many events.   To sign up, or for more information, go to: http://www.meetup.com/Ridge-and-Valley-Women/.

This newer park, with its wide open spaces and more than one set of swings, is a frequent go-to for the park players. Generally quiet (unless you hit them up for a summer event), parking is easy at Cedarview and its layout makes for easy visualization of your children.  The best part of this park is their two separate play spaces that allow both younger and older kids to play without conflict. A large covered picnic area and on-site restroom allow for ample playtime. This park is located off SR 410 and 208th at 93rd Street East.

 Sumner

A unique park in that it doesn't have any swings, RVP is a surprising treat for many parents who do not wish to spend the entire afternoon pushing their children on this ever-popular playground equipment. Instead, this park has many different style toys to further engage your wee ones. With a merry-go-round and less-average play structures, it's a nice break from the norm. Restrooms and a picnic shelter seal the deal as a great place to bring the kiddos. Rainier View Park is located off Parker Road and Meade-McCumber Road in Sumner.

For a fun afternoon out of the rain, Jumpin' Jack & Jill is the area's most frequented bounce facility. Located on East Main Street in Sumner, this fun place can quickly fill up during its Open Play sessions. At only $6 per child, with adults jumping free, this can be a cost-effective way to burn off all that pent-up energy. Many parents join in on the fun. This activity is best for children over age 2, as older jumpers can intimidate the tot set. Passes and T-shirts can be purchased to offer discounts for the frequent jumpers. For more information and schedule, go online http://www.jumpinjackandjill.org/.

For the under 5's, this indoor play park is an ideal playdate setting. Open during the school year on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the indoor play park at Robert Miller Gymnasium in Sumner features toys, equipment and music for toddlers. Space is most limited at this location, with only 35 spots available. Parent supervision is required here with no more than three children per adult chaperone. With a low $3 per child cost and kid-friendly hours from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., you'll find this to be an easy spot to bring the kids while you catch up on your adult chats. More information regarding punch cards and play park closures can be found on the Sumner Parks & Recreation winter brochure.
