Turning 100 Years Old Couldn't Feel Any Better

Residents learn the history of the White River Project including Lake Tapps and the Powerplant.

Over 300 residents attended the on Saturday, October 1 in Sumner.

It is a celebration of the past and where we are going to be in the next 100 years," said Lloyd Warren, Chairman of the Board for Cascade Water Alliance. 

Residents were able to tour the Powerplant that was built in 1911. Members of the Greater Bonney Lake Historical Society had displays and a slideshow of historic photos of the White River Project.

"We are really excited to be here and be part of the community," said Warren. "We aren't just here for the short term, we are here for the long term.

And it wouldn't have be a birthday party with out birthday cake, hot dogs and live music from the band "1928." There were also fun activities for the kids including Chuckalou from Clowns Unlimited in Tacoma, who made balloon animals.

"It was really neat to learn about the history of the White River Project," said Kristy Nowels, a Lake Tapps resident.

Nowels went on the Powerplant tour and couldn't believe how long the Powerplant had been around.

"I drive by the Powerplant all the time and never get to see what is going on," she said. "It is just cool that they (Cascade Water Alliance) had this event and invited everyone out."
