Amazon to Open Major Distribution Center in Sumner

The 500,000-square-foot shipping and receiving facility is scheduled to open this summer and create several hundred full-time jobs.

Amazon.com announced today that it plans to open a fulfillment center in Sumner this summer. The facility will bring hundreds of new, full-time jobs to town.

The new location will be located on 140th Ave. E., between 16th St. E. and 24th St. E. in Sumner's industrial district.

“We couldn’t be more pleased,” said Sumner Mayor Dave Enslow. “Not only do people in Sumner and eastern Pierce County need jobs, but they need quality jobs close to home from good employers. Amazon fits that bill beautifully.”

Amazon announced plans to open in Sumner after a hiring boom last quarter and on the heels of canceling the opening of a fulfillment center in South Carolina. Geekwire has the full story here

According to Amazon’s website, fulfillment centers are staffed 24 hours a day and are “modern, secure facilities with highly automated pick, pack and ship processes” to help the online store fulfill orders.

Full-time, hourly openings include roles in picking, packing and receiving/shipping. Management roles include positions in operations, safety, human resources and technical support. Seasonal positions will also be available during the holiday rush. Amazon is now accepting applications to fill the vacancies.

Candidates for hourly positions can apply online at www.amazon.greatjob.net or call 888-562-5088 for more information. Candidates for management positions can apply online at www.amazon.com/careers.

This is not the first time or the first person Quinn tried to hurt. I think she has a bitter andRead More evil heart. Instead of building and supporting the city, she prefers to tear down anything good and honorable. I'm so glad the voters saw fit to pass her by when she ran for election! With her attitude, it would have been detrimental to having a nice city to live in! Stuff a sock in it, Quinn!

I will never forget you David. We were connected through a tragic event that at times just feelsRead More like yesterday, and then you were taken from this earth by another tragic event. The 28 years inbetween went to fast. You were humble and down to earth. I feel as though you were surprised at how many people you touched in your 41 years. It was evidence at your service that you are loved by many, and you will never be forgotten.
