Cascadia Renamed With Plans to Open this Summer

Newland Real Estate has renamed Cascadia, to 'Tehaleh,' Chinook jargon for "high ground, superior land or land of the gods." Developers plan to have model homes available for viewing by July.

Bonney Lake residents will have to get used to Cascadia's new name -- 'Tehaleh.'

An article by the Tacoma News Tribune announced Newland Real Estate's plans to have model homes and a visitor's center up and running by July. The real estate company broke ground on the visitor's center, warming center and community cafe this week.

Newland plans to have at least 12 model homes available for viewing and spoke with the News Tribune about its plans for updates to its own wastewater treatment plant and improvements on 198th St. The company's vice president said they are also in talks with the Sumner School District to construct a brand new middle school to compliment Eismann Elementary.

Formally known as Cascadia, the 5,000-acre planned community will be the largest in the region's history, with a mix of schools, businesses, housing and hiking trails just outside the city limits of Bonney Lake.

Newland purchased Cascadia for $49.1 million in March 2011 from Homestreet Bank, which owned the property after developer Patrick Kuo foreclosed on the property in 2009. Since then, Newland has been working with Pierce County to clean up the area and make necessary improvements before the groundbreaking.
