Cool Finds in Bonney Lake and Sumner: An Antique Flintlock Mini Novelty Rifle

We're combing area businesses, locations and other local resources to bring you neat tidbits about what's going on, what's for sale, what's good to eat and more right where you live.

Recent political rhetoric pertaining to gun control has made rifles and other weapons a popular category of items at Bonney Lake's Pistol Annie's Jewelry & Pawn, but owner Melissa Denny recalls a unique miniature flintlock rifle smaller than a U.S. dollar bill as one of the more noteworthy items that has crossed her path of late.

Denny purchased the item, dating back to 1842, from a customer. The mini-rifle features a retractable scribe and seat to insert a piece of lead so it can also be used as a pencil.

Since opening this past fall, Denny credits the local community for helping her build her stock to include unique items beyond what is typically expected from a pawn shop.

"We have got a wonderful clientele," she said."The store has done almost 3,000 transactions in just pawns and purchases since we got here, which is pretty outstanding."

Though she has not priced the item, the asking price for miniatures similar to this rifle has run up to $400, she said.
