Full Service Craft Brews Bottle Shop Opens in Bonney Lake

NW Taps N Caps opened quietly about two weeks ago and is preparing for its grand opening in early August.

"Bonney Lake needs a place like this," said Spencer Neff, co-owner of the city's newest and only full service bottle shop.

Patrons appear to agree. NW Taps N Caps opened quietly about two weeks ago and has already cleared out eight kegs of a variety of craft brews that it carries.

Neff and business partner David Monahan specialize in domestic craft brews with an emphasis on those than originate in Washington, Oregon and California. You can't find Budweiser, Miller or any of the usual suspects here.

The shop also carries a limited collection of imports and ciders.

The idea is pretty simple: choose a bottled brew that appeals to you from the expansive refrigerator and either buy it to take home, or sit down and enjoy it there.

Staff will pop it open for you and give you a glass. Bring a friend - there's plenty of seating.

Don't know what you like? The shop also features 16 rotating taps that again, spotlight special craft brews only. Whether it's a cold, crisp light lager you're craving or a darker multi-layered stout, there is always something new to try, said Neff.

The taps stay put until one runs out, and then a new brew will take its place.

While there are other watering holes in and near the city to make it convenient for locals to get together and have a drink, Neff said Caps N Taps stands out because it's about celebrating the craft of brewing as much as the beer itself. "You don't come here to get drunk," he said. "You come here to try something new."

The concept for Caps N Taps came from Neff's own appreciation for beer. "I've been a beer connoisseur since I was ... well, let's say since I was 21," he chuckled. "I love to try new beers whenever possible."

Neff and Monahan worked toward their brew shop vision for the last two years and decided the best place to open their shop was right here where they live. "We like the community here," he said. "It's a close-knit community still, and people like to support local."

Other Features

The bottled beers aren't the only ones you can take out the door. Caps N Taps offers both growlers and kegs for fresh draft beer to go.

The shop carries a limited supply of snacks; patrons are welcome to bring or order in their own food from outside, Neff said.

Because the entire shop is open to the consumption of alcoholic beverages, no minors under 21 are allowed inside.

The store is located at 20840 State Route 410 in Bonney Lake. Neff and Monahan are planning for a grand opening celebration August 3.
