SDA Member of the Month: The Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse

The Sumner Downtown Association's Member of the Month this June is The Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse.

was selected as the ’s Member of the Month for June 2012. A name well known in Sumner and surrounding communities for almost 30 years, The Old Cannery has been known for their strong ties to Sumner, longtime support of organizations and charities, and now the location of Sumner’s Visitors Center.

The Old Cannery stays very active in the community. Their manufacturers and their representatives have helped with fund raisers for needy families. One fund raiser was for a little boy who had leukemia. All of their employees got involved and their manufacturers have been very generous with their donations. They either donate the proceeds from the sale of an item or give the actual piece of furniture to the family in need. They also raised money, and have food and blanket drives.  In years past, the local firefighters raised money by parking their fire truck at their store and held out their boots, collecting over $900 for the needy. Dave Radcliffe and his staff work hard to serve Sumner.  In fact, Dave Radcliffe himself was recently appointed “Tourism Ambassador” by the Tacoma Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau; clearly representing our community in the most positive of light.

The Old Cannery has also been a big supporter of SDA and is an active member.  Providing SDA with a monthly Membership Meeting location, supporting our requests for fundraisers and through positive representation in the Sumner Community, Dave, Sherry and their entire crew have become a favorite of locals and visitors alike.

From early beginnings in an old turn of the century brick building to the  10 acre building we have all come to know and love as the Old Cannery, this community icon is not just about business, but is truly about community.  SDA is proud to acknowledge this incredible organization.
