Visitor's Center at the Old Cannery Begins to Take Shape

The Sumner Visitors Center is set to open in March and design is already underway at the Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse.

A few pieces of cardboard with labels hold the place of a few needed last-minute items, but Sumner's Visitors Center, located inside of The , is taking shape.

Jackie Shaffer, Marketing and Promotions Manager for The Old Cannery, has been working hard to capture the essence of the '50s-style kitchen as the backdrop for this information resource destination. The plan is to occasionally make and serve  homemade rhubarb pie. "We don't have the details worked out yet, but it will be great," said Shaffer with enthusiasm.

The light teal color of the oven and pie cupboard will be matched by the antique refrigerator, which was out for painting at the time of this picture, and the sink, donated just after my visit.

The table in the front represents the solid wood farm table that will sure to be dusted with flower and sugar as the bakers make up a Sumner rhubarb treasure. The remaining time, it will hold visitor information for those passing through or new to the area.

Business, adventure and travel information will line the walls and cycle through on the flat-screen television, which will hang on the wall above a map of the area.
