Big Girls: How to Exercise With Aches and Pains

How do you work out around your injuries, aches and pains?

As I was Zumba'ing today, I was in my own little world and my own little zone. Every time I would lunge my foot/heel would hurt so bad. Sharp pain. I'm used to my foot hurting because I have Plantar Fasciitis, but I can tell you from experience, it hurts like heck. Sharp pains in my foot, ankle and heel. Before you all start posting loving comments about what stretches I should be doing, know that I am. I'm icing, stretching and most recently being worked on by Sole Reflexes in Buckley. Kalli at Sole Reflexes is helping me a lot, but that bugger still hurts really bad!!! It is just going to take time....

There I am, Zumba'ing my chubby little heart out and my foot is killing me and I am wondering how many other people dancing around me have aches and pains and how do they work around them. I work around my previously dislocated knee by taking special care that I am squating and lunging correctly and that I am not doing anything that feels wrong or uncomfortable.

Do you guys want to know how the clumsiest, most uncoordinated person in the world hurts her back? Why, bridge jumping, of course! When I was 18 (wouldn't you like to know how long ago that was? :) I was bridge jumping with my friends and I landed wrong. When I reached the shore my back hurt so bad that I was seeing stars. I walked the half mile up the hill to the nearest pay phone (ok, that may date me a little bit) and called the ambulance to give me a ride to the hospital. I ended up with a compression fracture in my spine, right by where my bra line is. My back pain has significantly improved since working out, but Yoga helps with that tremendously! Yoga is my sore muscle savior!!! It is great for all fitness levels and if you think it's "just stretching" you are so wrong! I get a great work out from yoga trying to hold my own body weight in poses and I feel fantastic for days afterward. My foot is begging me for yoga tomorrow.
