Sumner Arts & Rhubarb Festival Introduces Local Craft Beer

The Sumner Arts & Rhubarb Pie Festival allowed a small handful of four breweries to be on site serving their libations to patrons for the first time

Over the weekend, I was able to attend the Sumner Arts & Rhubarb Pie Festival in downtown Sumner, WA. It was a landmark time for the event which allowed a small handful of four breweries to be on site serving their libations to patrons for the first time ever.

The local breweries included two nanobreweries of Puyallup – DUO Brewing and Puyallup River Brewing along with other local breweries 7 Seas and Northwest Brewing Company.

The event allowed you to sample beers from each of them including some “festival only” concoctions utilizing the star of the show, rhubarb.

Puyallup River Brewing company, owned and operated by Eric Akeson, took home the “People’s Choice Award” of the event with his line up of Electron IPA, Strawberry Rhubarb Saison, Fryingpan Cascadian Red Ale, and Paradise Blonde Saison. The winner was chosen by the attendees of the event who had the opportunity to submit a judging form for their favorite.

I think the addition of the 21 and over craft beer garden was great, and hopefully they will continue the tradition in 2013 and maybe add a few other local breweries to the mix? What do you think?

A great small-town event with great people, great energy, fantastic music, and of course great beer!

Did you attend the event? What was your favorite beer?

Until the next beer,
