5 Reasons I Love Superbowl Sunday

What makes the Superbowl Sunday so super.

This Sunday is Superbowl XLVI (46) between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants.  Here are my top five reasons why I love Superbowl Sunday.

Winner Takes All: This is the one game in professional sports where the winner takes all.  Most other major sports leagues the champion is crowd with a best of seven series.  The Superbowl is the one game where players will play through the pain and leave it all on the field.

The Commercials:  Even non football fans will watch just to see the new commercials.  Who can forget last years Doritos commercial with the guy who licks the cheese buddies fingers.  I will always remember the Mean Joe Greene Coke commercial.  It takes place in the tunnel as Mean Joe is walking off the field and a kid gives him a Coke and he gives the kid his jersey.  I am still waiting in the tunnel with my bottle of Coke for Jim Zorn.

Underdog Story:  Every Superbowl has an underdog story whether it is a team making it or an individual player over coming the odds.  This years underdog has to go to New York Giants LB Mark Herzlich.  Just two years ago while playing college football was diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer and was told by doctors he would be lucky to walk again.  Thanks to chemotherapy and a lot of hard work he became an undrafted free agent with the Giants and played in 11 games this season.  I have attached the link to read more about Mark's story.

Puppy Bowl VIII: While others will be watching the halftime show with Madonna, I will be watching the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet.  For the last eight years the Animal Planet has put on a Puppy Bowl with rescued puppies and kitties for the halftime show.  It is just an overdose of cuteness.  I have provided the link to the Puppy Bowl starting line up.  My bet is on Eurika or Friday to take home the Puppy Bowl MVP.

Playoff Fantasy Football:   I am turning into a fantasy stat geek.  Playing fantasy football just adds to the experience of watching the Superbowl.  Since I have players on both teams I will be following the stats of my players all game long.  This has been my first full season playing and can not wait for next season to start.
