March Madness

Time for the Big Dance, college basketball style.

You don't have to be a College Basketball fan to still enjoy March Madness. Just by filling out a bracket you are participating in the world's largest office pool.

Here's the bracket link: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/tournament/bracket

First I have to start off with my disappointment that UW did not make it into the dance.  They won the Pac-12 regular season over Cal. I know Cal's RPI rating was higher but still UW beat them for the regular season title and yet Cal made it in. Huskys do need to improve on their horrible free throw shooting. That cost them at least four wins including their loss to Oregon State in the Pac-12 Tournament.

Now for the teams that did make it. There are the usual teams like Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina but it is the lesser known teams that make it fun. How many of us know which state Iona, Lamar, Creighton and Lehigh are located. That would be New York, Texas, Nebraska and Pennsylvania.

These smaller teams are what makes the tournament fun. Every year there is one team that is a bracket buster. Last year, that team was 11th ranked Virgina Commonwealth that knocked off number one ranked Kansas to make it to the final four.

All the fun starts this Tuesday with the first round of play-in games and then Thursday the tournament is in full swing. I will be cheering on the only team to make it from Washington, the Gonzaga Bulldogs.  I am ready for the buzzer beaters, overtime games and upsets. Good luck with your brackets and enjoy the dance. Go Zags!
