Monday Morning Quarterback

Recap of the Seahawks/Browns game as ugly as it was.

The Seahawks were in Cleveland with an early ten O'clock start.  After the Seahawks bye-week they should have came in fresh and ready to attack the Browns.  Instead it was one of the ugliest games I have watched in a long time.

Charlie Whitehurst was starting with Tarvaris Jackson still out with his shoulder injury.  Charlie Whitehurst had two weeks to prepare and take snap with the first team offense.  He did lose his running back Marshawn Lynch right before game time and tight end Zach Miller was still out injured.

Charlie Whitehurst could never get things going.  The offense just never seemed to be on the same page.  They used the no huddle to start the game off but bagged that after the first series.  He was sacked three times, intercepted once and fumbled the ball twice with the Browns recovering one of the fumbles.

The passing game was never in rhythm.  Charlie Whitehurst was making poor decisions throwing the ball into double and triple coverage.  He was under throwing some passes which, left receivers having to stop and wait for the ball.  The receivers had there dropped balls also and that didn't help matters.  The running game without Marshawn Lynch never got going.

The Seahawks defense gave it all they had.  Again time of possession came into play with the defense out on the field for 43 minutes.  They came up with five sacks and one interception.  Red Bryant blocked two field goals.  You can't expect your defense to play that long and not get tired by the fourth quarter.

Play of the game had to be in the fourth quarter when Leon Washington had a punt return for what looked liked an 81 yard touchdown.  It was called back on a penalty for an illegal block in the back.  Some are saying it was an iffy call, but that could have been the winning touchdown.

Seattle managed one field goal in the third quarter for their only points of the game.  Browns' kicker Phil Dawson made two 50+ yard field goals to give Cleveland the win.  Browns 6 Seahawks 3

As a fan I was getting to the point I would have rather seen what third string quarterback Josh Portis could have done. With the score so close I know they wouldn't have sat Charlie Whitehurst even with his lack of offensive production and a passer rating of 35.0.   I have a hard time seeing Tarvaris Jackson or Charlie Whitehurst as the starting quarterback for the Seahawks next season.

By the numbers:

*  In the first five minutes of the game six penalties had already been committed.

*  In the first half there were nine punts between the two teams.

*  Seahawks only had nine first downs in the game(no that is not a type-o).

*  Seahawks had a total of 137 yards.

*  Cleveland ran 34 more offense plays then the Seahawks.

*  Bad football weekend for the state of Washington with UW, WSU and Seahawks losing their games by a combined score of 45-115.

Fun Fact:

Red Bryant(Jacob Green's son-in-law) became the first player in Seahawks history to have two blocked field goals in the same game.
