Monday Morning Quarterback

Recap of the Seahawks/Bears game.

The Seahawks came into the weekend with playoff hopes still alive.  Their first task is to win their last three games.  Then they need a little help from a few other teams.  They did get some help with the Giants losing today.  It was up to the Seahawks to do their part and beat the Chicago Bears on the road.

Seahawks had a slow first half, scoring their only touchdown early in the first quarter on a two yard run by Marshawn Lynch..  They tried to get the running game going but the Bears' defense was filling the holes.  Chicago's first touchdown came on a recovered fumble in the end zone caused by Julius Peppers' sacking Tarvaris Jackson.  Bears quarterback Caleb Hanie would throw a 25-yard pass to Kahlil Bell for a touchdown and the lead.  Going into halftime Seahawks 7 Bears 14.

Scary moment in the first half came when Kam Chancellor hit Bears receiver Johnny Knox.  The hit caused a fumble and while trying to recover the ball Knox got hit by David Hawthorne in an awkward position that bent his upper half back.  He was taken to the hospital, had full range of motion but will undergo surgery on his back tomorrow.

The second half was all Seahawks' defense.  They were swarming all over the field from tipping the ball, sacking the quarterback and causing turnovers.  Red Bryant and Brandon Browner both had interceptions they ran back for touchdowns.  I can not state enough what a group effort it was on defense.  Everyone was contributing and playing hard.

Marshawn Lynch was stalled with only 42 yards on the day but had two rushing touchdowns.  Tarvaris Jackson game came out throwing in the second half going 15-19 for 176 yards.  The Seahawks would run off 31 unanswered points and leaving the Bear's scoreless in the second half.

Seahawks did lose another receiver to injury.  Mike Williams left the game in the third quarter with a broken ankle and will be out for the season.  Good thing they have a deep receiving core.

There was just something about this game, for the first time in a long time I saw swagger in the Seahawks.  It didn't matter they were on the road and down at halftime.  They just carried themselves like a winning team does.

By the numbers:

Marshawn Lynch had his first 1,000 yard rushing season since 2008.

Seahawks' defense created five turnovers and four sacks.

Seahawks cleaned up their penalties with only 6 for 36 yards.

Seahawks already have three road wins on the season which ties them with their 2007 season.  They have a chance for their fourth road win in Arizona on New Years Day.

Fun Fact:

Marshawn Lynch has 10 consecutive games with a touchdown passing Shaun Alexander's for the Seahawks' franchise record.
