Monday Morning Quarterback

Recap of the Husky/Colorado game.

With the Seahawks having a bye-week I thought I would take the chance to recap the Husky/Colorado game.  It was the first Pac-12 meeting between the Huskies and Colorado with the game being played at Husky Stadium.

Quarterback Keith Price needed last weeks bye-week to get healthy after the Utah game left him with banged up knees and limping on one ankle.  Colorado leads the Pac-12 in sacks but was never able to bring down Keith Price, thanks to his scrambling abilities.  Keith Price had four touchdown passes in the first half with no interceptions.  Towards the end of the first half Keith Price was limping a little on his bad ankle.

With the halftime score Washington 38 and Colorado 10 I was expecting to see freshmen QB Nick Montana (dad is the famous Joe Montana) to get some playing time in the second half.  Keith played about 3/4 of the third quarter before Nick Montana took over.

Nick Montana's first play from scrimmage, he was sacked and fumbled the ball with Colorado recovering the fumble.  I am sure this is not how he wanted to start his college career.  Most the plays called were running plays to run the clock down but Nick Montana did go 2/2 for passing for 10 yards.  I look forward to seeing what he can do when they open up the passing game for him.  It is always good when your back-up QB can get reps in a game.

The Husky defensive line did well holding Colorado to only 62 rushing yards and applying pressure to Colorado's QB Tyler Hansen all day.  The defensive pass coverage will need to be stronger next week when they face Stanford on the road and their Heisman trophy candidate QB Andrew Luck.

Besides Keith Price one of the offensive stars of the game had to be freshmen tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins.  He made some great catches in coverage, including a 10 yard touchdown catch.

With Head Coach Steve Sarkisian being in his third season with the Husky's the biggest difference I see between him and former Head Coach Tyrone Willingham is the depth in recruiting.  Coach Sarkisian is bringing in recruits that are getting playing time in their freshmen and sophomore years.  He is showing fans what they have to look forward to in the future.

Final score Washington 52 Colorado 24.  Husky's had no trouble covering the 14 point spread.  Now they need to get ready for the topped ranked undefeated Stanford Cardinals.  A win there will keep them in the hunt for the Pac-12 Championship game.

By the Numbers:

Husky's had twice as many total yards on offense as Colorado. Husky's 562 Colorado 269.

Keith Price with his four touchdown passes is now second in the country for touchdown passes.

Husky season record for touchdown passes is 28; Keith Price already has 21 with five games left in the season plus a bowl game.

The last time a Husky team started a season 5-1 was back in 2001.

Washington is ranked 25th in the BCS poll and 23rd in the AP poll.

Fun Fact:

The Husky's attendance was 62,147 only to be out done later that night by the Sounders farewell to Kasey Keller at Century Link Field with a crowd of 64,140.
