Gas Line Break Closes SR 410 in Bonney Lake, Kindercare and Justice Center Evacuated

Traffic in downtown Bonney Lake and along Elhi Hill was halted during rush hour traffic after a gas leak shut down SR 410 and Main Street E. for almost two hours.

Construction crews working on road improvements at the intersection of SR 410 and Main St. E. in Bonney accidentally hit a 2-inch gas line at 4:30 p.m. causing a leak, according to a press release from East Pierce Fire and Rescue.

Bonney Lake Police closed State Route 410 and Main Street E to secure the area and halted rush-hour traffic along both east and westbound SR 410 for nearly one and a half hours.

As a precaution, Kindercare students, the Bonney Lake Justice Center and nearby offices were evacuated to the Bonney Lake Library. Residents of an apartment complex were asked to shelter in place.
