Lunar New Year Ushers in Year of the Rabbit
The Lunar New Year and Year of the Rabbit begin on the Pacific Coast today, Feb. 3.

Today is the first day of the First Moon of the lunar calendar. This date varies depending on the moon’s placement, and this year it happens to fall on today, Feb. 3. The Chinese New Year is celebrated much like the Western one, signifying new beginnings in life.

LION DANCE PERFORMANCE IN SEATTLE
When: Saturday at 2 pm
Where: Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience at 719 S. King St.
Details: The performance will be outside the museum on King Street. It also will continue inside the museum. The inside portion is free with admission.
Chinese lions are used during the Lunar New Year to chase away bad spirits. They are used especially in southern China, Hong Kong and in cities that have large numbers of ethnic Chinese.
