Priority Road Clearings: What to Expect

The City of Bonney Lake Public Works Department has an agenda for road clearing in the case of bad weather. So, here's what to expect.

City Snow Removal Plan:

City Public Works crews will clear snow from priority roads first. Priority roads include those around hospitals, schools, main arteries and on hills. They will try to have all roads cleared as quickly as possible, the city treats a snow storm as an emergency and overtime is started as soon as it is needed. All available trucks are put to work.

Priority roads take precedence and other streets (residential and dead-end streets) will be cleared when conditions allow. Sanding starts when two inches of snow build up on the street or, on streets with steep slopes, just before a major storm arrives. Sand is generally applied only on hills and at intersections.

Generally, snow plowing starts when four or more inches of snow accumulate on streets, when continuing snowfall is projected, or when unsafe conditions exist.

Upon notification by the Police Department or a Public Works supervisor, the Public Works on-call person shall call snow removal personnel.

This list designates the order and shift each snow plow operator is assigned. It is important to call the crews in order to ensure that the schedule can be maintained smoothly in the event of a long-term operation.

The on-call person will not serve as a plow operator outside of regular working hours in order to be available to respond to other emergencies.

Snow plow/sand trucks will concentrate on State Route 410 as well as the main arterials during snow events. "Priority Routes" are those considered the prime movers of high volume traffic throughout the City of Bonney Lake. Other "Local Access" streets will be plowed/sanded as crews are available with priority given to steep slopes and police declared emergencies.

Procedures for State Route 410:

Snow plows will work in tandem to clear the eastbound and westbound lanes of SR-410 at the start of any snow event. Upon completion of SR-410, operators will work individually on
