Top 5 Local Thanksgiving Dinner Deals

Want a big spread this Thursday but not the oversized bill? Patch went undercover shopping in five grocery stores to find the best deal on the block.

If you've put off grocery shopping for Thanksgiving because of icy roads this week you're going to need to get it done quick! Patch has done all the research for you and found the lowest prices for your holiday meal.

Our Thanksgiving shopping list features a 10-pound turkey, 3 pounds of russet potatoes, 3 pounds of sweet potatoes, old-fashioned stuffing, canned cranberry sauce, a gravy packet, 12 bakery rolls, 1 pound of fresh green beans, a can of French onions, a can of cream of mushroom soup, one bakery pumpkin pie and a bottle of white wine. It's enough food to feed four to five people. In every case possible, I choose the exact same brand from store to store.

1.  WinCo Foods $23.68 – The winner by a landslide! There is a minimum purchase of $50 to get the best turkey price, which is an amazing $0.26 per pound for a WinCo or Jennie-O Brand turkey. If you don't mind bagging your own groceries, this is the place to go. Even with only name brand calculations, WinCo Foods is the clear winner. They have a full service bakery and an extensive produce selection to help finish up your shopping. Plus, the store is open 24 hours a day, so if you have to work late it's still do-able.

2.  Safeway $30.27 – With a Safeway Club Card and by choosing brands that are on sale, Safeway is a great choice for your holiday shopping. If you are used to stocking up on essentials, Safeway has many of deals where buying two or four of the same item can save you even more. Most of the common Thanksgiving items are right in the front seasonal display so shoppers can get to them quickly.

3.  Fred Meyer $30.80 - The actual total for my list would be $48.70, but if you spend at least $150 and have the coupon from the weekly store flyer (available by customer service), your turkey is free!  So ... if you have a lot of shopping to do, and you need a 20-pound turkey, Fred Meyer should beNo. 1 on your list.

4.  Grocery Outlet $29.09 – This store had some amazing deals and is locally owned and operated so it earned the No. 4 spot. Their turkey prices were very competitive; I couldn't find any rolls or fried onions, which is why the total is lower.  Grocery Outlet is a much smaller store and the selection is limited.  If you are crafty enough to make your own yeast rolls and fry your own onions, they do have the ingredients you will need.

5.  Albertson's $42.83 – Albertson's has a clean and friendly store with a wide variety of items that every family needs, but the prices were nearly double that of WinCo Foods, even if I used the generic brands. So unless you have some coupons to double this week, I would shop elsewhere.

Happy shopping!!
