Death of Democracy?

Death of Democracy???

There’s always two sides to a story right?  Come read the letter written by the mayor of Sumner and two council members(both are running) and two planning commissioners/council candidates to the Pierce County League of Women Voters.  This letter(available at tonight’s meeting) caused the cancellation of a public forum on October 15th.  By doing so the mayor has stripped the public of the opportunity to hear from the candidates running for public office.  There are three council positions, two school board positions and a mayoral race.  We have lost the opportunity to hear from all seven candidates.  The League of Women Voters is a 90 year old non-partisan organization with a long history of moderating forums.   Read Death of Democracy(from the city’s website) and accept the mayor’s challenge to participate in public meetings.  Tonight is a regular council meeting and an opportunity to tell the mayor that this is not OK.  The voters have a right to hear the voices of the candidates that are running to serve public office.  Please come and show your support for your right to hear from the candidates that want to serve you.  Tonight.    7pm.   Sumner City Hall  1104 Maple St  Sumner, WA 98390
