Maniac Made at the Tacoma City Marathon 2013

Meet Cara B., Fleet Feet Sports Training Graduate - I started running in high school, usually with my dad, and have stuck with it all these years for health and stress relief reasons. I ran about 5 miles, thinking that was my limit. The big miles are for real athletes, right? I never thought I could run a marathon. So, when a friend talked me into joining the Fleet Feet training group for the Tacoma City Marathon, I was worried. But, I discovered that the program wasn't about running many torturous miles, but learning about nutrition, hydration and running smarter. Best of all, the coaches run with you, give you motivation and snacks along the way! With this group, I really began to enjoy the long runs because of the stories that were told along the way and the friendships I made. After listening to the experiences of Marie, Karey, Cassie, and others, I knew I had to stick with this group so I could run more marathons- and create some stories of my own! They convinced me that I could run Eugene the week before TCM, so I could be a Maniac. The morning of the Tacoma marathon was so exciting, taking team pictures, and getting pumped to run! It was awesome to be able to run with the Fleet Feet group and to check off the miles together. When we crossed the finish line, Marie and I had both reached our goals. She had decreased her time, and I had run two marathons in two weeks! Jana, Sabrina, and the whole Fleet Feet team, you are amazing! I could not have done it without you. Thank you for all you do! I am coming back for more! I just had to tell my dad about my marathon. He ended up running his first marathon this year at age 75.
