Comments on her account show that many other Patch readers feel her pain. Are there simply not enough jobs to go around, or are employers trying to hire the cheapest (youngest) labor possible?

She isn't alone. Our editors have covered similar stories in Washington state, including that ofΒ Richard Youngblood who lost his job as a Maytag store manager, at the age of 62, after the company decided to downsize its retail store locations. After seven unsuccessful months of job hunting, he took matters into his own hands and opened R&D Thrift Store and Consignment Gallery, located at 226 Wells Avenue S. in Renton. This was back in October 2011 and his store is still open for business today.
