It's Never A Dull Moment - Driving in the 'Black Hole'

The Black Hole

My husband refuses to drive in my van.  It's not my driving (ok maybe that's a tiny part of it).  It's the condition the van is in.  He shutters to contemplate getting in the "Black Hole."  Like a number of parents, I live in my van.  When I am not commuting to Bellevue Monday through Friday, I am shuttling the kids to soccer practice, games, tournaments, dance, friend's house, school activities, etc.  I can't always count on Mark's schedule since it changes at the drop of a dime.

There are days and many of them where articles of clothes are flying before we get to the next event, food is being shoveled down and the school paperwork and mail is being gone through.  I would love to say that when I pull in the driveway, that everything comes out with us - it doesn't.  The scariest part of my van is the 3rd row.  When I get that free time to REALLY clean out the van, it is amazing and terrifying what I find back there.

When Mark questions how my van gets into this condition and his car doesn't, I explain how chaotic our weekly schedule can be while he works.  I don't get a response, I get THE LOOK.  Sometimes, I feel like it's just me that has a car like that, but then I see other mom's cars and guess what? It's the same condition and they get the same grief from their hubby's.

I do remember the good old days when it was just me in the car, my purse, and the ocassional soda.  How times have changed.  This weekend is low on the event schedule, which means my van has a serious date with our shop vac.
