If You Think News Reports Have Been Too Sad Lately, Check Out 'The 50 Cutest Things That Ever Happened'

Buzzfeed's list of the 'cutest things that ever happened' brightened my grey and gloomy Friday.

Today's been a tough one as we learn more about what happened early this morning when a gunman injured 71 people in an Aurora, Colorado after opening fire in a movie theater. News reports have been flooded with phrases like "movie theater turned house of horrors," "random mass murder" and questions such as, "are we safe anywhere, anywhere?"

To answer the last question -- no. No one really is. Today's tragedy proved that anything can happen anywhere, anytime and it's important to be aware of that.

Frankly, I've had a bad Friday. Sometimes being a Patch editor is tough. Writing and researching stories about mass shootings, women who beat infants, missing teenagers and homicide victims can take a lot out of you. And it's the middle of July and feels like September. (Where the heck is summer?!)

But I know that life gets heavy no matter what you do for a living. We all have those times where the days feel longer, work seems harder and relationships feel more and more complicated. Even if it is a Friday afternoon.

That's why laughter is so important.
