What is a Chamber of Commerce?

I am very excited to start blogging for Patch!  Patch has been a great addition to our community and has become my number one source for the latest community news and information. 

For my first blog post, I thought it would be appropriate to explain what a Chamber of Commerce is and what we do.

 What is a Chamber of Commerce?

Quite simply put, we are here to assist the growth and development of our member businesses. 

We are a non-profit organization, incorporated as a 501(c)(6) business.  Many people are surprised to learn that we are NOT part of local, state or federal government, though we do often partner with government to achieve mutually beneficial goals relating to business.

Chambers of Commerce are volunteer organizations and funded by membership dues as well as non-dues items such as events, advertising, sponsorships and grants. 

What do Chambers of Commerce do?

Chambers focus on a broad range of activities and support both businesses and community.  We believe a strong and vibrant business community benefits the entire community.  

We provide opportunities for members to make an impact on critical business and community issues.  Together, with other leaders in business, community, and government, chamber members  work to make the community a better place to work, live, and play by building strong businesses and strong communities

Chambers of Commerce around the world are known as the most trusted community resource and business referral center. The Bonney Lake Chamber is no different. We receive hundreds of calls each year from people looking for local products and services, as well as general information on our area from people looking to relocate or just visiting the area.

Businesses join the Bonney Lake Chamber of Commerce for a variety of reasons.  Whether they are looking to grow their business, increase sales, pay less for business services, or have a voice in community issues that are affecting their bottom line, the Bonney Lake Chamber is on their side. 

Now that we have that out of the way, I look forward to sharing some of the stories about our local businesses, including examples of great customer service, events and special promotions they may be having.  In addition, I will keep you informed and up-to-date about what is going on at the Chamber.
