Rules in the School District

When you then try to enforce the rules or codes, some people are going to complain or do what I do -- blog about it

Our school district has had some problems the last few years. But, I can say that there are some wonderful teachers that are employed by it. I have dealt with some teachers and administrators that are great, and some that are not so great.  I can say the good out weighs the bad.

I believe that our kids are suffering with the amount of bad there is. Some teachers let kids get by with a lot in their classrooms. Some are very strict, but when it comes to the rules that have been put in place, there should be no wavering from these rules. Dress codes are put in place, no cell phones in class, and no PDA are examples of these.

I know that it is up to the individual teacher, security personnel or Administration to see and deal with rules or codes that are broken. But, if you are going to let kids get by with a dress code violation, for example, you have to let all of them get by with it. Fair is fair.

I know "Life, is not fair." But when you then try to enforce the rules or codes, some people are going to complain or do what I do -- blog about it. I have 2 boys at BLHS and a girl at Lakeridge right now. We have been in this school system about 4 years. I have been in the schools and around a lot of kids. I listen to kids, they tell me a lot. They are just as confused as I am.

I have sat in the office with one of my boys and listened to an administration/teacher tell my son that he was going to have a Wednesday before-school detention because of a cell phone violation. All of my kids are good students and do not cause trouble in school. I refused to sign anything that day. My son said to me and him, "Another kid's phone keep going off and because of who he was, no one did anything." Same day, same class.

So as a parent what do you do?  I had to back my child. He is a child and it is my job to protect him. If you are going to violate one, you do all. No matter what.
