Original Post:

Kent Police issued an Amber Alert Friday for 8-year-old Anh Nguyen-Duffy.

Nguyen-Duffy was last seen on the morning of Jan. 9, when she was taken by her father during a domestic dispute. Investigators said the little girl has not been at school since.

Police are asking the public's help in finding the girl and her father, Hung Bao Nguyen, 37. He is described as of Asian ethnicity, with brown eyes and black hair, 5 foot  6 inches, 145 pounds.

Ahn Nguyen-Duffy was last seen wearing a white jacket, jeans and green shoes. She is of Asian ethnicity, has black hair with red highlights, is 3'5" in height and weighs about 45 pounds.

Hung Nguyen may be driving a black 1998 Ford F-150 with Washington license plate B27504V.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call Kent PD at 253-856-5800 or 911.

I sure hope they have the descriptions correct. I am looking at the height and weight and think my 4 year old is 3'5" and 42 pounds. I know she's tall, but that sounds SMALL for an 8 year old.

Unless the father isn't supposed to have her, why are the police involved?
Lauren Padgett (Editor) January 11, 2013 at 10:37 pm
I think because he took her after a domestic dispute. We don't have any other details at this point.

If there is a parenting plan in place between the parents, Mark, the non-custodial parent may not have had the legal right to take the girl out of school without agreement with the other parent.

Therefore Jeanne he should be held in contempt which is not a crime and is not a listed Amber Alert requirement. There is a list of what requirements are needed before an Amber Alert can be issued. It is NOT meant to enforce Parenting Plans. We must learn the law not the talking points. Even things like non-custodial is a legal term and has a specific definition yet the term is misused in court every hour of every day. If a child is born between MARRIED parents neither can legally be a non-custodial. Yet ya all go along with the misleading of the public by using the language they do and so you have agreed to their premise which then allows them to use the wrong law against you. Who pays for this the most? Your Children.

You are right, and I readily admit that I don't know the specific circumstances, Peggy. For anyone wondering what the guidelines are (described by the U.S. Department of Justice as recommendations, not as requirements), here's what DOJ says:
Summary of Department of Justice Recommended Criteria (for Amber Alerts) There is reasonable belief by law enforcement that an abduction has occurred. The law enforcement agency believes that the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death. There is enough descriptive information about the victim and the abduction for law enforcement to issue an AMBER Alert to assist in the recovery of the child. The abduction is of a child aged 17 years or younger. The child’s name and other critical data elements, including the Child Abduction flag, have been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system. More info is available on the guidelines here: http://www.amberalert.gov/guidelines.htm
