Body Found in Bed of Burning Truck in Bonney Lake
A series of loud explosions was reported shortly before truck went up in flames. Police don't yet know the cause of death or the victim's identity.
Bonney Lake police are investigating the discovery of a body in the bed of a burning truck this afternoon.
A series of loud explosions was reported shortly before a truck in the 8400 block of 181st Avenue East in Bonney Lake became engulfed in flames about noon.
Multiple witnesses called 911 to report the loud sounds, and responding firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, according to a news release from the department.

Firefighters then discovered the body in the bed of the truck and called the police.
The victim has not been positively identified, and police department spokesman Daron Wolschleger said that might not happen immediately.

“Because of the fire, it’s going to take a bit of time to process the scene,” he said, adding that they do not know the cause of the fire or of the death.
Initial reports suggested that the death is being investigated as a homicide, but Wolschleger said that they are still “weeding through” evidence.
“We’re keeping every avenue open until we know what’s going on,” he said.
