Mistaken Toy Gun at Nearby Residence Triggers School Lockdowns in Bonney Lake

Bonney Lake High and Mountain View Middle were briefly put into lockdown this morning due to report of nearby individual with a gun.

This morning, a local resident noticed an individual with a "long gun" and called police.

Because of the location's proximity to and , the school officer elected to put both schools in lockdown, said Bonney Lake Sergeant Tom Longtine. The incident occurred in a residence just outside city limits in Pierce County.

Just as the sent an email to parents informing them of the lockdown, Patch called Longtine, who said the lockdown was over.Β

"The residence was checked and we weren't able to make contact with the subject, but there appeared to be a toy weapon in the residence," said Longtine. "At that time, the police officers cleared the location. It probably was nothing at all but we always err on the side of caution."
