Bonney Lake Police Blotter, April 19 - 23

A DUI, teens with marijuana and shoplifting are highlighted in this week's police blotter from Bonney Lake.

April 19

Shoplifting

10:36pm:  Police were dispatched to Walmart for a shoplifting report two days prior. They were shown a video of a male who entered the store and immediately walked to the rear stock room. Police immediately knew who the man was – he had been involved in several thefts from Fred Meyer. The security camera showed him walk to the electronic merchandise section, where he spent time between the aisles out of the camera’s sight in the storage area. He then exited the store without paying for anything. It wasn’t until the next day that the store realized he stole two portable DVD players out of the storage boxes.

Officers visited the man at his house, and noticed he had cute his hair to very short buzz and was wearing a ‘White Power’ baseball cap. In the video, his hair was long. Police questioned him and he said he went into the electronics aisle looking for something small to steal, put the two DVD players in his pants and walked out of the store. He said he had already sold them to “a guy.” The man was arrested and booked for theft, and was permanently trespassed from the Bonney Lake Fred Meyer, Walmart and Cigar World, where he has also stolen from.

Marijuana possession, speeding

12:05am: An officer was radaring traffic on the 17700 block of SR 410 when he clocked a vehicle going 65mph in a 45mph zone. The officer stopped the vehicle and contacted the four occupants. He immediately smelled marijuana and intoxicants. All in the vehicle were between 17 and 19 years old. The driver said he was taking everyone to a friends’ house in Puyallup and smelled like alcohol. He admitted to having “three sips” before driving and acknowledged that he had marijuana in the vehicle. The officer also found a black and white marijuana pipe in the passenger door. The driver blew a .000 on his breathalyzer and was cited and released for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also given a speeding ticket.

DUI

2:18am: An officer observed a maroon Saturn traveling east on SR 410 in the far right lane. The car was straddling the lane divider between the far right turn lane and eastbound lane just prior to South Prairie Road. The officer clocked the vehicle at 47 mph in a 35 mph zone. The officer contacted the driver just prior to turning on 214th Ave. E. The driver and his passenger smelled of intoxicants and both were staring forward and avoiding eye contact with the officer. The driver was slurring his speech and his eyes were droopy and bloodshot. He said he was coming from Auburn and heading home after having two alcoholic drinks prior to driving.

A license check showed the man had a suspended license from a previous DUI and he refused to submit a breathalyzer test. The female passenger also had a suspended license and was released at the scene. Because the man refused to submit a breathalyzer, he was cited with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and his license was punched.
