Warrants, Narcotic Possession, Open Container, Suspended License

1:22pm: Officers observed a silver Nissan Sentra traveling west on SR 410 from South Prairie Rd. A computer check of the license plate showed the vehicle owner had a suspended license, and officers pulled the man over. The man said he didn’t know his license was suspended but was placed into custody without incident. Officers discovered three folded up pieces of aluminum foil used to burn narcotics. They located a prescription bottle for generic Percocet in his car, a plastic baggie with white residue in his jacket pocket and a hollow pen with white residue inside. The man told police that the prescriptions were legally his but that he was crushing the tablets and snorting them with the hollow pen. A open, half-full 32 oz container of High Octane was found on the passenger floorboards. The man had a passenger in the car who was released from the scene. The officer submitted these items into evidence and the man was cited for failure to provide/display proof of insurance and an open alcohol container. He was also charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a third degree suspended license. He was then placed in Kent Police custody for his outstanding warrants.

Malicious Mischief in Trailer

2:52pm: Officers were dispatched to a malicious mischief report at a residence on 189th Ave. E. Dispatch advised that the reporting party had his RV trailer damaged by an acquaintance, who was currently kicked out of the trailer. The reporting party said he was pulling his trailer out of the front yard when he noticed damage to it. Officers noted that the trailer had severe algae and mold growing on its sides and on the top. The owner said that he offered the other man a place to stay in mid-December after the man was kicked out of his house, that he was trying to do the man a favor. The man told him that he could live there for 30 days until he found somewhere to live and got him a job with his company. The man was fired after he didn’t show up to work and the man kicked him out of his trailer. When the owner went into the trailer after the man left, he found several holes in the walls, broken cabinets and torn flooring. He estimated the damage at $2500. Officers tried to locate the other man, who they soon discovered was homeless and had moved to Idaho. When they contacted him by phone and asked him about the damage, the man replied, “Sounds like you have some vandalism going on in the neighborhood.” The case was forwarded to the prosecutor for malicious mischief charges against the man.

Employee Theft at Marshalls

3:39pm: An officer was dispatched to Marshalls on a report of an employee theft complaint. The loss prevention officer told police that she was routinely going through the store’s item void receipts and saw an unusual amount of voided checks during a particular employee’s shift. In one transaction, nine out of 12 items were voided. After observing surveillance cameras it was determined that a customer would bring a pile of clothes to her register, and the employee would scan them items, remove the security devices and then reach over the register screen to manually void the items but still placing them in the shopping bag for the customer.  She also allowed the same girl who made the purchase to come back and return the items days later, using the original receipt. She was suspected to have stolen over $500 worth of items from the store over time.

When questioned, the woman admitted to facilitating the thefts for the woman that equaled over $2,000, but she did it because she had ‘heard bad things about her and what she did to people who did not do things for her.’ She felt threatened and thought the woman would break into her house and assault her. Then, the woman admitted that the other accused didn’t know where she lived. She claimed she did not benefit from the thefts.

The woman was placed into custody for theft and booked at Buckley Jail.
