Domestic Dispute, Malicious Mischief

4:22am: A man reported to dispatch that his ex-girlfriend used a screwdriver to damage his car and three others. The man said he and his friends were at the Yella Beak in Buckley where he ran into his ex. She was very upset he was dating another girl. The group left the bar at 2am and arrived home around 3am, and when they arrived they noticed the front door and electric garage door sitting open. The ex-girlfriend showed up and started causing a scene. When she was asked to leave, she supposedly ‘keyed’ all the cars in the driveway with a screwdriver.

The ex-girlfriend was found in the Safeway parking lot and she denied keying any  cars, but she had a screwdriver and wire cutters on the front seat floorboards of her car. Officers then realized the woman was living out of her car, and she smelled strongly of intoxicants.

The next day, police followed up with the boyfriend, who said various items were stolen from his house the night before and the woman threw a rock through his window. The ex-girlfriend admitted to stealing the items and showed up at the man’s house to return them, and there police arrested her for two counts of domestic malicious mischief, two counts of malicious mischief and one count of possession of stolen property. The woman admitted to being upset the man broke up with her and she said she was on Oxycontin and blamed him for it.

Theft, Obstructing Police at Target

6:06pm: Officers were dispatched to a report of a theft in progress at Target. Dispatch advised that a female was observed by loss prevention concealing items in the store, and a black car was in the parking lot acting as a ‘lookout.’ After the woman was taken into custody, the car was observed leaving the parking lot. Officers pulled over the car before it got away. The driver said he left his passenger inside the store while he went to get ‘smokes,’ and when officers explained that she was being held for theft, the man became belligerent and argumentative. He refused to comply with officers and quickly grabbed something from the middle console before getting out of the car. An officer deployed his Taser at the man, and he continued to walk toward police, forcing the other officer to deploy his Taser, too. He still fought police and attempted to kick the officers but they were able to restrain him.

At Target, the loss prevention officers said they watched the woman take a trash can and place numerous items in it. She went to the cashier to ring up certain items but did not say she had items in the trashcan. The cashier asked to look inside the container and she said she didn’t want the items, but still walked through the doors and sensor alarms without paying for a Pepsi. When detained, the woman said that she needed money to pay rent and that a man agreed to pay her $150 for the items she attempted to steal.

The woman was booked on theft charges and the man was booked for resisting arrest, DWLS third degree and failure to provide proof of insurance. He also had a misdemeanor warrant and was transferred to Puyallup.

Car fire on SR 410

2:17pm: A police officer was stopped at the intersection of Sumner Buckley Highway and SR 410 when he noticed a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The vehicle was on the outside lane of SR 410 within the 18100 block facing east. It was completely blocking traffic. The officer called East Pierce and approached the scene, where he met with a plainclothes Sheriff’s Deputy already on the scene. He told the officer that a large family fled the vehicle across the street toward Ampm after it caught fire. The officer located the family, when the woman driver advised they were coming up the hill and the vehicle got hot and began filling with smoke.

The car was a total loss.
