Bonney Lake Police Blotter: March 19 - 27

A high speed chase, disorderly drunk and elusive shoplifter are highlighted in this week's blotter from Bonney Lake.

March 19

Reckless Driving, Marijuana Possession

11pm: An officer was driving north on 214th Ave. E. from 120th St. E. and observed a dark blue vehicle driving south on 214th Ave. E. at over 100 mph, the officer guessed. The officer turned around, activated his lights and had to reach a speed of over 90 mph, and the car turned left on Prairie Ridge Drive and lost control, but continued east. The officer finally caught up with the vehicle but it did not stop right away. When he finally pulled the car over, the man was placed into custody, but was uncooperative. He yelled, “Come on cop, I’m only driving 80!” and “what’s the big deal?”

As the police officer read the man his rights, he made fun of him and mimicked what he was saying. The officer found a plastic baggy of marijuana in his pocket and two prescription pain killers. The man also had a pair of law enforcement-type handcuffs in his front jeans pocket.

On the way to Pierce County Jail, the man kept fighting the officers and they believed he was on a narcotic. The man was booked for unlawful possession of a prescription, reckless driving and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was not charged with eluding because the officer didn’t get close enough to determine if the man noticed the officer was following him.

Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest

1:17am: Officers were dispatched to the 18300 block of Sumner Buckley Highway for a report of a disoriented and intoxicated female trying to get into a vehicle. When they arrived, they found a male and female on the verge of an argument, and when contacted the male became verbally aggressive with police. He was unable to keep his balance and the woman told police that they were by the man’s vehicle because he had given his keys to a friend. She said he did this because he drank too much at the Bonney Lake Tavern and his friend didn’t want him to drive drunk. She said they lived in Sky Island and agreed to walk home with him in order to avoid an altercation. The man continued to yell at police even after they told him to walk away.

Approximately 30 minutes later, the officers noticed the man walking back toward the BLT. He purposefully ignored the officers’ commands to stop and refused to cooperate and started walking toward officers in an aggressive way. He then got in a scuffle with police, and one of the officers hit him in the thigh with his flashlight. He still fought them and ended up tearing one of the officer’s uniforms.

The man told police he knows he should have gone home but he got in a fight with his girlfriend on the walk back and could not tell police why he reacted the way he did when they saw him. The report said he sustained no injuries from the fight and did not complain of pain. He was booked at Buckley Jail for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Shoplift at Fred Meyer

7:07pm: An officer was dispatched to Fred Meyer on a shoplifting complaint. Dispatch advised that the loss prevention staff attempted to apprehend a female suspect but were unable to stop her from fleeing in a white Chevy Suburban. The loss prevention officer told police that he noticed the woman place several pieces of merchandise in a shopping car and select several more items, including some photographs she had ordered to be processed. She then reportedly went to the home department, grabbed a screw driver and removed it from the packaging. He then saw her use it to pry the security devices off two pairs of Vans shoes and a pair of bras. She went to the front of the store, grabbed a bag and put both shoes and bra in a bag, left her cart of merchandise and exited the store.

At that point, the loss prevention officer and manage tried to ask her to come back in the store, which she refused to do. They were able to grab one bag of merchandise from her before she got into the vehicle and fled the scene.

The officer looked up her license plate that the manager wrote down, and went to her residence. She denied shoplifting but admitted to being at the store earlier. She eventually admitted that she stole because she didn’t have any money and her significant other had left her. She was cited with theft and trespassed from Fred Meyer for one year.
