Officers did an area check for the suspect vehicle but were unable to locate the truck. The victim’s garage door was ripped from the house and damaged from the collision. The police observed a white Honda Accord and green Acura parked in the garage, both damaged when the truck struck from behind. There was a damaged bush outside the garage that appeared to have been driven over by the suspect.

The homeowners said they were in their residence when they heard a large crashing sound coming from the garage. They ran to the garage and observed the door crumpled on the ground, and witnessed the white truck backing out of their driveway.

A witness who lived nearby told police that she knew someone who drove a white pickup who lives nearby, but she did not suspect them to be involved. She even called the friend to voice her suspicions, but he denied being involved.

Police went to the area of that person’s home and found a white raised Dodge Ram pickup with front-end damage that matched the damage to the door, and the hood was still warm. The 20 year-old who answered the door said the pickup was registered to his mom, and appeared nervous when police asked if he had been involved in the collision. He initially denied it, but changed his story and said he drove to the witness’ house and pulled into her driveway, but accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. He then drove through the garage door. He said he panicked and fled the scene.

The man did not appear to be intoxicated or on any drugs. He was arrested without incident and was cited for hit and run and a NOI for inattentive driving.

Sept. 11

Car Fire

3:47am: Officers were advised that East Pierce Fire and Rescue was responding to a vehicle fire at the Forest View Apartments on 8313 Meyers Rd. E. Police found a Ford Bronco fully engulfed in flames. The vehicle was unoccupied.

Police contacted the reporting party, who said she saw the vehicle on fire as she drove into the complex. She observed a white vehicle of an unknown make or model leaving the complex. Another resident observed that same vehicle occupied by two males parked near the burning vehicle earlier in the evening.

The registered owner of the vehicle arrived on the scene and said she was not home when the vehicle caught on fire, but that she had only been in Sumner for about 15 minutes prior to being called by her neighbor. She said the vehicle had been parked in the parking lot for a month and it wasn’t running. She didn’t know how the car would have caught on fire.

After the fire was extinguished, officers completed their investigation. There are no suspects at this time.

Sept. 14

Malicious Mischief

4:20am: An officer was dispatched to a residence on 198th Ave. Ct. E. for a report of malicious damage to a vehicle. The reporting party said that unknown subjects had thrown watermelons at her vehicle, a 2004 Kia Sorrento, which was parked outside her residence.

The woman said that 10 minutes prior to her contacting police, she heard a couple of large thuds coming from outside. She looked out her bedroom window and saw smashed watermelons lying around and on top of her vehicle. When she went outside, she realized her windshield had been smashed. She did not see anyone in the cul-de-sac and didn’t notice anyone leaving the area, and said that she had no enemies that she was aware of.

The officer took photos of the damaged vehicle and as he was clearing the scene, he stopped by the woman’s neighbor’s house. The man said he had been getting ready for work when he heard what sounded like several teenagers in the cul-de-sac at approximately 4:15 a.m. He looked out his window and saw about five teens getting into a vehicle and leaving the area. He was not able to provide any more details.

The scene was cleared and there are no suspects at this time.

Sept. 17

Bar Fight

2:10am: Officers were dispatched to an area check regarding a vehicle that left Babalouie’s, after occupants of the vehicle allegedly assaulted subjects at the bar. Dispatch advised that the vehicle was last seen turning west on SR 410.

While at the bar, the officers were flagged down by the reporting party, who said he was standing outside the bar talking with friends when they noticed the black Chevrolet HHR pull up and pick up some suspects. He said that he and his friends began making fun of the vehicle, comparing it to a PT Cruiser. He said the comments were overheard by the people in the HHR and the group was confronted.

The reporting party said he thought everything was settled and offered to shake hands, when he was sucker punched in the stomach and his friend was head butted. His friend, who was obviously intoxicated, said he was punched in the face, not head-butted. The suspect was described as looking like a cast member of the “Jersey Shore.” The witness was very difficult to deal with because he would scream in anger one second then ramble on about how he was going to find the suspects and take care of the situation himself. He even hinted he had a weapon in his car.

Officers advised the men to leave the scene, which they eventually did. They then contacted some employees, who said they were not aware of the incident. However, a friend of one of the employees witnessed the altercation. He said that one of the suspects had a .45 in his car and “he would shoot them where they stood.” He then advised that he left the area and did not want to get involved.

Police were unable to find a vehicle matching the witness description and cleared the area.

House Burglary

7:56pm: Officers were dispatched to a residence on 192nd Ave. E. regarding a reported burglary, which occurred earlier in the day, sometime after 2 p.m.

The homeowner said she returned home around 6 p.m. and learned unknown suspects had entered her home and taken jewelry items, securing them in a pillow case that was also missing. She said it appeared they had forced their way into the home through a door. The officer observed a striker plate was lying on the living room floor and the frame around the door had been broken and splintered where the door lock secures in the doorframe. There was a footprint near the doorknob on the exterior door and it appeared the door had been kicked multiple times.

The woman said it was obvious they went through her desk, bathroom and bedroom. They had opened the medicine cabinet door, possibly looking for prescription medications. Her mattress had been moved and the jewelry box on her dresser was empty. The missing jewelry was estimated to be worth between $2,000 and $3,000.

The woman was given a case number and advised to periodically look on craigslist for her missing items. There are no suspects at this time.
