Bonney Lake Police Officers Awarded Medals of Merit, Valor

Standing proudly in front of a packed room, Interim Chief Dana Powers lauded the work of six members of the Bonney Lake Police Department.

“They have shown leadership in the face of adversity,” said Powers.

Detective Sergeant Kelly Maras, Detective Brian Byerley, Detective Ryan Boyle, Detective Todd Morrow and Officer Chad Kiblinger all received the Medal of Merit for their work in the investigation of the Lakewood officers shooting in 2009. The five men helped follow leads to uncover suspects and accomplices in that case, which ultimately to the death of Maurice Clemmons and the conviction of his getaway driver, .

“Because of your due diligence and tenacity the accomplices were identified and later located,” said the award. “Your efforts did not go unnoticed and your leadership in the face of overwhelming odds reflect great credit upon yourself and this department.”

Bonney Lake Officer Eric Alfano was awarded the Medal of Valor for his work in assisting Pierce County Deputies during a burglary in progress in February 2010.

“You distinguished yourself with extraordinary acts of bravery and heroism above and beyond the call of duty when pursued suspects after shots were fired in your direction,” the award stated. “Officer Eric Alfano displayed extreme courage by placing his own safety in immediate peril in an effort to provide protection and preservation of life.”
